Add flavour to your cream dispenser.

July 25, 2011

Mastered the art of whipping cream, but want more from your culinary skills. Try adding flavoring to your whipped cream.  This can be done by mixing syrup into the cream. Add vanilla extract or flavoured syrups (chocolate, strawberry hazelnut, orange) that you would add to coffees into your cream whipper before adding the cream. After adding the cream be sure to shake the syrup and cream thoroughly to ensure a good blend. Then put the cream under the pressure of the nitrous oxide chargers via your cream dispenser. Whip the cream onto your coffe or hot chocolate to make your drinks extra special.

How to use a cream whipper dispencer

Did you just get a new cream whipper? You want to impress your friends and family with gorgeous cakes, picture perfect hot chocolates, and rich fluffy cream and strawberries. But can’t figure out how to work the things! No fear brave bakers. Just follow these simple steps to using a cream whipper.

1. Get to know the parts of your whipped cream dispencer

Your cream whipper is made up of a bottle, a screw on headpiece, and pipping tip. Wash these throughly before use. You may need to buy the cream charger (nitrous oxide bulb) separate.

2. Insert the cream charger (cream cartridge/nitrous oxide bulb)

The cream charger goes into the cartridge holder which is opposite the handle. This piece screws off and the bulb fits perfectly inside. The round end goes in first as the tip will be punctured when screwed back on. This releases the gas into the cream to produce the whipped effect. You will need to replace your cream charger after every use, as typically they only hold enough nitrous to produce 1 liter of cream.

3. Add your cream

Pour your cream into the bottle. How much cream you pour in depends on what size cream dispencer you purchased. For this we will say 1 pint of cream and 2 tablespoons of confectioner’s sugar. At this time also add and flavouring syrup or vanilla extract.

4. Put it all together

Place the headpiece on the bottle and tighten. Also replace the cartridge holder on the headpiece and tighten quickly so that no gas escapes.

5. Shake Shake Shake

Now the best part. Shake the bottle so that the cream and sugar can mix, usually for 1-2 minutes. Now turn the cream whipper vertically and squeeze the handle. Immediatly fluffy whipped cream will be produced to garnish your favourite cakes, fruits, and coffee’s.

Recycle Cream Chargers

Whipped cream chargers are steel cyclinders rounded at one end & and narrow tip on the other. They are filled with 100% nitrous oxide. The cream canister’s wall is approx 2mm thick so that it can withstand the pressure created when using with a cream whipper. Once used they cannot be refilled, but these canisters are 100% recyclable. Metal can be recycled indefinitely without loosing ay of its properties.  However, the recycling rate of steel packaging is only 46%. Most recover of steel is done with a large magnet to separate it from other household waste at landfills. However, there are recycling locations that you can take your empty cream supplies. The best way to find your local steel recycling centre is visit www.recyclemetals.org. Simply type in your post code to find a centre nearest you.

Nitrous Systems

Dragsters’ pay attention. Nitrous Oxide N20 is a great way to super charge your car’s performance. It works as a oxidizing agent and allows more fuel then normal to burn.  Also know as NOS after the company Nitrous Oxide Systems. When using Nitrous Oxide to improve your cars speed, the nitrous is kept in liquid tanks with the goal of increasing the volumetric efficiency.  This interaction can be tough on a combustion chamber and lead to problems later such as cracked or distroyed pistons or crankshifts. Check in your area to make sure it is legal for street driving before setting out to impress your friends.

European N20 Cream Chargers

Europe was where the nitrous oxide cream charger was originated. European manufacturers have high standards and regulations for health and safety and quality of the product. This includes repeated cleaning to remove machinery oil from the chargers. As with most areas of manufacturing some production has moved to china. It is true that the Chineses standards of production has not been proven to be lower standards, but past studies show that Europe has higher standards for consumable goods.  The UK has been bombarded with lower quality Chinese cream chargers. The price may be lower, but is the standard there?  EZ Whip is an Austrian manufacturer whose product is the leading retail seller in the American market. Liss is the second most popular European manufacturer and uses recycled metal to make the nos canisters. Isi  and Best Whip are the third and fourth most popular cream supplies manufacturers. Mosa rounds out the top 5 European manufacturers and tends to focus on medical grade N20.  No matter which brand of cream supplies you use, always use the product by following the manufacturer’s instructions.  For a UK retailer of Liss check out www.directcream.co.uk
